SURPRISE! OCTOBER WAS FULL OF SURPRISES. OR NOT

The race is getting tight. Last week we showed you a Cappuccino presented to us by our Barista, Fabio (inserted lower photo)…This week, one of his minions, BuonGiorgio, presented us with one of his creations. Everybody at the bar “Oohed and Awed”… What will tomorrow bring?  Has the Student surpassed the Master?  You may think this is a trivial activity; but it is better than living in a garbage can – way better.

SOMETHING TO HELP YOU TAKE YOUR MIND OFF THE ‘ELECTION’

  • Remember when the cost of Energy was related, primarily, to the price of gas at the pump and, heating or cooling your house?  And “Drill, Baby Drill” was one of the answers to resolve all these issues?  Well, there are new players in the energy use game: Crypto sucks up a lot. The Cloud sucks up some. Those two entities have driven up energy Prices & Demand in several large communities.  But the big new player is AI and AI is using more than anybody has quantified.  It is being suggested, in order to meet anticipated demands we should re-activate some old Nuclear Power plants and build a few new ones for good measure.  Do we not remember the Meltdowns?  Do we forget no one knows about what to do with the Nuclear Waste?   Someone once said “Our problems are caused by our solutions to previous problems”…Well, in this case we will have a problem because we have not solved a previous problem. …So, who are you gonna vote for?
  • Let us talk about the movies on TV.  When they start off with a little paragraph stating that the following show has bad language and sexually explicit scenes, you should know they know what they are talking about.  I’m not sure whether the advice is a warning, or a sales pitch. Years ago, when the script writers ran out of material they wrote in a horse chase, cowboys shooting at each other.  Time passed and they cut the horses and put in car chases…everybody loved that…now, to fill time –  it has progressed to bad language and sexually explicit scenes. Where do we go from here?  Me?  I like it when they can’t figure out what to do with a character, and they have him or her step out in the street and a bus comes along and kills them.  I would stop watching all shows today if I could remember how to read a book. …So, are you gonna watch the new “Apprentice”?
  • I am alarmed over the Washington Post’s not endorsing a candidate. Gutless, spineless, fear based lack of a move.  Me?  As soon as I know Harris is going to win, I am going to endorse her.

Some quotes & comments thereon:

  • “It is hard to make predictions; especially about the future.” -Yogi Berra (But, I can see clearly into the future and I see if ‘he’ (who will remain nameless in this post) wins; a lot of us will lose…and if ‘he’ loses; many will win. Way many.)
  • “Democracy Dies in Darkness” -The Washington Post slugline popularized by Bob Woodward.
  • “All animals are equal; but some animals are more equal than others.’    -Napoleon the Pig, in George Orwell’s “Animal Farm”

That’s it for this week. Hang in there. And a fond “Hello” to Greg, wherever you are.
