IS THIS THE BEGINNING OF THE END? OR THE END OF THE BEGINNING?

IS THIS THE BEGINNING OF THE END? OR THE END OF THE BEGINNING?

  • I am thinking about writing the History of the World.  Why not?  All sorts of people are doing things they are unqualified to do.  Without having done any research, here is a sample of my first effort.  More will follow next week…unless I am ‘shut down’ by elected forces.

Before the Beginning there was nothing.  Nothing, no light, no wind, no nothing.  Except for God, of course.  (Who is referred to as ‘They’ from hereon).  Then They got tired of nothing, so They created matter…then the problems began.  Early on, it took something like 7 days to create the Heavens and Earth…but They soon got better at it and now They create multl-universes out of matter and black holes and stuff.  Somewhere in time, They created a man and a woman and soon thereafter the man and the woman thing led to 9 billion of them, give or take.  Humans are much like They in many ways.  One of which is we do not like Nothing.  Boring.  So what else is left?  Matter, that’s what.  Matter is what counts and the more you have of it, the more you matter…Get it?

So.  Moving forward.  Soon after the Beginning when the humans were still crawling around looking for worms and things in the ground that could be eaten…one of them, picked up a rock about the size of a baseball…and with that rock he/she scratched the ground and uncovered a bunch of worms and grubs and such, and there was a mighty feast.  That rock was the first tool (a few years later another pre-Neander threw a rock at something and that was the beginning of Baseball.)  Soon humans were killing animals by throwing strikes at them.  Amazing how the world turns.  Anyway, everything since that rock, everything that has been invented, including AI – is a tweak on that rock and the whole reason for all of these tweaks is to lessen our workload – at least that’s what some people think.  Some other people, think the whole purpose of the tweaks is to gather as much ‘Matter’ as possible.  The more Matter you acquire, the higher up the food chain, the political chain, the celebrity chain you go.  And to some: that is all that matters.

Now the question has been asked:  Who is happier?  The person with the most Matter?…or the man who aspires to live with the least Matter possible? On the one hand, you had Jesus, who had little in material things.  He certainly was not a materialist, you would agree.  (We know there are some Christian ‘Wealth/Prosperous’ sects out there; but we are talking about Jesus here.)…Was Jesus happy?  I don’t think so.  He wondered why his father abandoned him and he suffered a miserable ending. On the other hand you have King Solomon who had 2.2 trillion in todays dollars.  I am told he was extremely happy.  And he died a dignified death.  On the other hand I’ve been told the man who dies with more than ten thousand dollars in the bank has lived the life of a fool.  And yet, on another hand Elon Musk looks extremely happy with his 420 Billion dollars in market value worth as you can see by the way he dances on stage. Bezos seems happy, too.  But why is it these two guys want to go to Mars?  Doesn’t planet earth make them Happy? Would not they be happier if they were to sit cross legged in a cave and hummm a Buddhist chant and not be concerned with the materialistic ways of the world?  HMMMM?

A quote:

  • “Rich people are different from us; aren’t they?” – F. Scott Fitzgerald in conversation with Ernest Hemingway
  • “Yes. They have more money than we do.” – Hemingway’s response to Fitzgerald.

Goodbye for now…and a “Hello” to Patrick, wherever you are
