QUESTIONS NEED BE ASKED

Questions to be asked:

  • Do you think anybody – as a child – said to herself/himself “I want to be a dentist when I grow up” ? Or…”I like looking into people’s mouth’s all day long. I could do it for a living.” ? I don’t think so. I think what happens is people get damaged along the way and things change. Also, you must take into account: The average ‘medium’ pay for a dentist is over $196,000 a year.  If you are willing to go deeper into someone else’s mouth and spend more time there, you could get paid up to 50% more for being a Periodontist…or an Othodontist.. But 196k is not bad for just being a plain dentist. However, these professions, though well paid, come with higher risk of suicide than most others. So, watch what you choose to do in life.
  • If you are walking in the woods and you come up against another human…Are you: 1) Scared? 2) Overjoyed at the thought of meeting someone new? 3) Going to ask the person if he or she wants to share your food? Or ask he or she if you can share their food? 4) Assessing whether or not this is a safe situation…and you can handle it? 5) Not going to take any more walks in the woods because of the way things are these days? I have not found any studies on this matter.
  • Do you think the following is a good idea?: Someone ought to invent an AI program that would show you what you would look like in the future if you did not: Smoke, and or Drink Booze, or eat Chemicalized Meat, or eat dozens of PEEPS this Easter…sort of a reverse of the Dorian Gray picture up in the attic. Knowing how vain we creatures are, I’ll bet this program would improve our national health stats. If you, dear reader, create this program – I want 10%
  • What do Americans think the nation’s greatest challenges are?:1) The Environment? 2) Wealth Disparity? 3) Guns, Crime? …If you checked any of the above you are wrong, according to the first poll which came up on my ‘Googler’. Number One on the list: (with 21% of respondents) Government/poor leadership. Number Two on the list: Immigration …and Three: High cost of Living. ….Abortion issues, Environment and Guns were each way down at the bottom with 2% each. You know, where you stand is usually near where you sit. I have a note here dating back to  2012 which claimed Americans, then, were concerned about Cyberwarfare as much as anything. Concerns change. All this goes to show you can’t necessarily trust any poll you read – which is good news because some of the recent political polls are too sickening, to be believed. (Me? I am concerned about the Thwaite Glacier; but maybe my mood will change and I’ll be concerned with something else.)
  • Does believing in Conspiracy Theories help you stand out in a crowd? According to some psychiatrists the answer is “Yes”…They say the Conspiracy Theory believer believes – at some level – he or she will ‘stand out’ because of the strange beliefs. But what happens to the Believer when he or she is in a crowd of Conspiracy Believers? How do you stand out then? Shout louder? Carry a loaded gun? Suddenly disavow the Conspiracy Theory at hand and become the crowd weirdo? These questions need be answered.

Some relevant quotes by others

  • “I’m always amazed to hear of air crash victims so badly mutilated that they have to be identified by their dental records. What I can’t understand is, if they don’t know who you are, how do they know who your dentist is?”  -Paul Merto
  • “I told my dentist my teeth are going yellow. He told me to wear a brown tie.” -Rodney Dangerfield
  • “The only way to get rid of temptation is to yield to it.”
Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Grey“
  • “Experience is merely the name men gave to their mistakes.” -Oscar, again
  • “The mentally disturbed do not employ the Principle of Scientific Parsimony: the most simple theory to explain a given set of facts. They shoot for the baroque.” -Philip K Dick, “VALIS”

That’s all there is for this week…and a fond “Hello” to ‘Chas-bo’, wherever you are.
