SCATTERSHOTS:
- New Term (to me…): “The End of The U.S. Era.” Who could have thought of such a thing? Are these thinkers Hypothecating? Or are Historians accurately writing it down at this point in time? Should they mention this in our schools?
- False Term finally brought to life: “Scientific Cabal”. I never believed it was a Scientific Cabal that, falsely, created the argument there was Climate Change occurring. But this week I read a group of twenty scientific organizations claimed we are not yet in the “Anthropocene Epoch” (…Meaning a period where human activity has a significant impact on the planet’s Climate and Ecosystems.) ..Of course. there are other Scientific arguments which hold we have advanced to the “Novacene” era…which suggests we have, perhaps, done irrevocable damage to the earth – as we know it…But it seems we now, finally, have a ‘Scientific Cabal’ …and this one is arguing there is no Climate Change effected by man. Who pays for this group?
- When I was in College, we were in a ‘Maufacturing Economy’ (According to Economists)…a few years later, we were in a ‘Service Economy’…Now we are in a ‘Consumer Economy’…Much manufacturing has gone ‘Abroad’ …Service has arguably gone downhill…and the Consumer is having trouble getting us out of our economic woes. (Rents, housing, credit card debt, etc)…What is the next phase? Maybe it is ‘The Shareholder Economy” – and maybe we are in it already and where will it take us? (Check out; Novacene era, mentioned above.)
- I have noticed people are generally at their nicest when they have been fed. If this is a ‘Truism’ then with 9 billion of us (give or take) the feeding of people should be high on our priority list…what with the availability of guns & bombs in the hands of the underfed…and, of course, there are other good reasons to feed the people.
- Politicians in several U.S. States have introduced measures which would make the imparting of some certain pieces of knowledge – illegal and subject to jail and or work termination. Socrates was given a death sentence for teaching some things which his jurists believed was contrary to the teachings of their gods. So, maybe things have improved after all.
A few Bromides and comments thereon:
- “If you sit by the river long enough, you will see all your enemies float by.” – Gen. Xang (Me? I am going to the river right now and I hope my enemies float by before November.)
- “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” -E. Burke, also attributed to Proverbs & Mark. (Me? I think if the ‘Good men’ do nothing they are not ‘Good men’ – but maybe I’m just in a mood.)
That’s all for this week. See you next week if the good lord takes a liking to us…and a fond “Hello” to Daisy, wherever you are.
