On trying to understand…
- Let me see if I have this right. There is: Intelligence, Real Intelligence, Artificial Intelligence, and Generative Artificial Intelligence. What I don’t know is which Intelligence is the best to have. (I don’t even know what Generative Intelligence is. Does this place me in the arena of the Idiots?) As you know, there is: Idiocy, Real Idiocy and Compelled Idiocy. I do not think there is Artificial Idiocy. Wait a minute! That could be another name for the Q-Anon stuff and Project 2025.
- Speaking of AI I have found the ‘Algos’ are not necesarily spot on, on their guesses. For example: My Instagram account tries to convince me I want to make money by sitting on my couch all day and barely do anything but make money while doing nothing. I mean what about naps and going out for lunch and maybe an occasional aperitif? Also, the Algos insist on showing me how to regain my balance by standing in strange positions for long periods of time and how to live a longer, healthier life by doing 10 easy stretches. I already know how to stand on one foot and do easy stretches…how come the Algos don’t know that?
- I used to have a big, good working vocabulary. But today I read articles which contain words which I can pronounce; but which truly convey no meaning to me: i.e., 1) “Bitcoin” (Nobody, but nobody has explained it to me …and talking about “Blockchains” does not help.) 2) “Generative AI” (see above para.) 3) “Hyperscaling” (I Googled it and am left wanting. It has nothing to do with gum cleansing, by the way. It is a ‘business term’ and ‘business’ is ununderstandable these days. It used to be someone invented a horseless carriage and everyone could understand what it was…now, somebody invents a virtual coin and then hyperscales it before sending it into a blockchain and most people have no idea what all that means – even though it is setting the trend and driving the Stock Market to record highs.) 4) “Quantitative Easing” has been around a long time now and all I know for sure is it costs a lot and we could not have survived without it. 5) …This morning, I overheard someone say to his coffee mate, “I wanted VR and AR tech with the PC to connect to the Metaverse…” something like that – and the only conclusion I could make was he probably had no idea what is going on in Springfield, Ohio. He seemed to be enjoying his coffee, however.
- It’s not just words we are bandying about which we don’t understand…it’s also whole, big topics, like: Weather, Immigration and Military conflicts. I’ll deal with them in another post – unless I’ve been hyperscaled into the Metaverse by an AR teched Generative AI.
