ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA

  • So. I have been living in Tuscany for the past few years. Trying to write; not the ‘Great American Novel’ but simply to put out a weekly ‘Blog’ and connect with… with I don’t know who (whom?)  exactly…or why I’m doing it; but I’m doing it anyway. Along the way I have started a Bi-monthly conversation with some expats from Germany, France, England, Holland – places like that. The purpose of these chats is to express what in the news of the day concerns us most. I have learned several  things, one of which is: Everyone in the group has someone in their family they can no longer talk to because of… Trump…who they are convinced is a ‘Bad Guy”. This is not just an American phenomenon. I thought you’d like to know.
  • So. This led me to reflecting on some of the male figures that were dominating the scene when I was a young man. First, of course, was Pa Cartwright, of ‘Bonanza’ fame. My fact-checker tells me Pa never lied. That’s why Hoss and Little Joe grew up to be such good citizens. He was also very nice to that immigrant cook of his: Hop Sing. Pa (played admirably by Lorne Green) was respected so much he hosted several Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parades on TV. Maverick was a good guy, too – although a card shark. Marshall Dillon & Chester, The Rifleman, don’t forget the Lone Ranger and his Native American Friend, Tonto, (who he treated as his equal most of the time). My question is: If so many of us watched all this, why did almost half of us grow up to vote for the “Bad Guy”? Did the Vaccines damage our minds, as some leaders are saying? Or were the Good Guys of yore really just Leftwing, DEI Libs and should be replaced by a “Reality Star” as a role model for our new upcoming leaders? (Ed. note: They weren’t all cowboys…i.e. Ozzie, of Ozzie & Harriett, was just a father as far as anybody could tell…and he sired Ricky Nelson…not so bad)
