IS TRAVEL BROADENING?

It has been said “Travel is Broadening”…as I look at many of the tourists in our little town I would say ‘Broadening’ often happens before one travels. Americans, Germans, French – even some Canadians…some of them have Broadened before they got here.  But if you mean ‘Broadened’ in the sense of  becoming more ‘Open minded’, culturally…then there are other things to consider…Thirty years ago, Travelers came to Europe to see famous Cathedrals, museums and old palaces.  It seems today, travelers come to taste the wine…eat meats they can’t get at home…and they Broaden accordingly. I read ‘Locals’ who depend upon Travelers for a living do not really like them very much, other than for their money. And the ‘Locals’ who do not depend upon travelers for their  living – don’t like them, either.  It is a problem. In Venice, Barcelona and Rome there are protests in the streets against Travelers and the BnB’s which abet them.  And these are protests about Travelers who travel for fun.  There are millions, maybe hundreds of millions who are traveling to stay alive…and very few people like them at all.  It is a problem and it is Broadening.
